Warm summer and very cold winter - these are the typical features of climate in Poland. If you plan to spend a holiday in the country, find out wich season suits you best. We suggest October. The month is still warm enough and it's the beginning of Polish "golden autumn".
The character of Polish climate is transitional between maritime and continental. Location and landscape are the main factors constituting the specific climate in Poland. The weather is extremely changeable and might surprise everyone.
Winters are usually very cold with heavy snowfall. Summers are generally warm, even very hot. The best time to visit Poland would be summer, spring or early autumn. Keep in mind that sunny weather might suddenly break into rain. Spring begins in March. The temperature rises from -1 to 20°C and lasts until May. July is the hottest month in Polish calendar, but the rest of summer is also warm. The temperature ranges from 21 to 32 °C.
September is still warm and marks the beginning of Polish „golden autumn”. But it’s not until October that you can fully appreciate the beauty of the season, with colorful trees all around. Autumn might be both warm and rainy. Sometimes it is really cold in October - even to the point of snowing. Days grow cooler until December, when winter begins and temperature falls down and wavers from a few degrees above 0 °C to - 10°C. Winter might be extremely cold with temperature below -20 °C. Snow usually melts in March, but high in mountains in the south it lingers till May.
