Poland is surrounded by seven neighbors. The country has many natural borders such as rivers, mountains and Baltic Sea. The longest border, between Poland and Slovakia stretches for almost 800 km.

Poland's neighbors

Poland is the heart of Central Europe. The country has 7 neighbors. The border with Lithuania and Russia runs in the north, Belarus and Ukraine in the east, Germany in the west. Southern neighbors of Poland are the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Baltic Sea in the north is a border of Poland and Sweden. Poland has an easy access to Scandinavian and North Sea ports. Southern borders are marked by the Sudeten Mountains and the Carpathian Mountains. The Odra and the Nysa rivers in the west are the natural borders between Poland and Germany and Poland and the Czech Republic. The border with Belarus is set along the Bug river in the east.

The maximum distance from east to west is nearly 700 km and from north to south is about 650 km. Poland is the ninth largest country in Europe. Its area is about 312,680 square km.  Capital and the largest city of Poland is Warsaw (1,7 milion population). It is located near the geometrical center of the country, by the biggest river in Poland - Vistula.
