The old Concordia printing, Poznań/Fot. Łukasz Cynalewski / Agencja Gazeta
The old Concordia printing house was built at the beginning of the XX century and printed books and newspapers for almost a hundred years. For years it was hidden behind the Kino Bałtyk (The Baltic cinema), but that was demolished in 2003 and the new Sheraton Hotel was built on the plot. The printing house was bought by Piotr Voelkel, chairman of the Vox Company and an art lover. Exhibitions as part of the Mediations Biennale have been held there, design students learnt lacework, wickerwork and how to make wooden toys as part of the New Folk Design project. Today Ewa Voelkel, the chair of ProDesign, is renovating the building to create a design centre. You can't go inside, but if you're already there you can check the schedule at the bus stop on Ulica Roosevelta. Concordia isn't hidden anymore by the cinema, but the bus stop still bears its name Bałtyk.
