Alfa "skyscrapers" at ulica Święty Marcin

Many of them arose around Alfa "skyscrapers" at ulica Święty Marcin whose construction started in the middle of 60's of the previous century. Not only it demanded razing the tenement houses previously located there: the new ones grew much higher than the historical buildings around. It was them, however, that gave the Poznań center a touch of a metropolitan character. They also proved chasing the global trends in architecture possible, despite the daily dreariness and economic difficulties in Poland in the communist era. The idea of giving Święty Marcin a new shape and building there Alfa "skyscrapers" went along the same lines as the postwar reconstruction of many European cities, Stockholm for example. None of this is easily recognisable today as one looks at the poorly maintained exterior, covered with adverts.
