The most controversial is however the Arsenał at the Stary Rynek. This modernist and bold solid, surrounded by historicistic little houses (postwar reconstruction) provokes an enthusiastic reaction of the few and the hatred of many who wouldn't have anything against blowing it up in any minute. The original intention was to locate Cepelia (a shop selling Polish traditional handicrafts) and a shop with TV sets there, but eventually Arsenał turned out to be a good place for an art gallery who has been there since then. There are elements of Arsenał that allude to historical architecture, too, as the triangular tops decorated with studs and the tiny inside lane between the buildings, transforming into the Culture Passage in the summer.
