BBC Music Magazine praises Polish recording
A CD featuring music by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski has been named Record of the Month in the Choral & Song category in the September issue of the BBC Music Magazine.
The CD features the Stabat Mater, Litany to the Virgin Mary and Symphony No.3 (The Song of the Night) performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk.
The CD was given the highest, five-star ranking for both performance and recording.
The BBC magazine’s critic John Allison said in a review that “few conductors today are more steeped in the music of Karol Szymanowski than Jacek Kaspszyk,” who “brings out the dancing flexibility of the central movement while controlling his forces masterfully” in the Symphony.
The CD is part of a series of Warsaw Philharmonic recordings of Szymanowski’s music released on the Warner label.
