Polish opera - available around the world
Music lovers around the world will be able to watch a performance of Władysław Żeleński’s “Goplana” on Thursday in a live relay from the National Opera in Warsaw.
The performance will be the company’s second production available on the Opera Platform. It is billed as an “unfamiliar jewel […] with a fairy tale plot; an opera run through with Polish motifs and touching lyricism”.
Władysław Żeleński (1837-1924) was a leading Polish composer of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.
As an opera composer he remains somewhat in the shadow of Stanisław Moniuszko. His output includes string quartets, a piano concerto, symphonies, works for violin and piano and numerous songs.
The production of “Goplana” is the work of a duo of internationally acclaimed Polish artists: conductor Grzegorz Nowak and stage director, set and costume designer Janusz Wiśniewski.
The cast includes Małgorzata Walewska, Wioletta Chodowicz and Edyta Piasecka. The performance is available on www.theoperaplatform.eu and vod.teatrwielki.pl
Moniuszko’s “The Haunted Manor” - the previous opera to be live streamed by the National Opera in Warsaw - has been watched online by over 170,000 viewers.
After Thursday’s live event, “Goplana” will be available until 2 May 2017 free of charge as video on demand.
