Polish punk rock legend dies, aged 57
Polish punk rock and reggae icon Robert Brylewski has died aged 57.
The artist passed away on Sunday following weeks of coma after a serious injury, his family said.
Brylewski was a musical visionary and pioneer of Polish rock. The singer, songwriter and guitarist recorded around 35 albums throughout his career.
He co-founded Kryzys, one of the first punk bands in Poland, and Izrael, a pioneering act in Polish reggae, both of which achieved cult status on the punk and reggae circuits.
The track Centrala ['Headquarter'], featuring lyrics by Tomasz Lipiński and the memorable guitar riff by Robert Brylewski quickly became something of a manifesto of a generation growing up in the 1980s in communist-era Poland.
Born in 1961, Brylewski established his first band, The Boors, later renamed to Kryzys, at age 27.
He is survived by two daughters and a grandchild.
