Pole wins race up Empire State Building
Poland’s Piotr Łobodziński has won this year’s Empire State Building Run-Up, the world’s oldest and most famous tower race that requires competitors to run up 1,576 stairs to get to the top of the 102-storey New York City skyscraper.
The 31-year-old runner, a native of the eastern Polish city of Bielsk Podlaski, clocked a time of 10:31, beating the second-place finisher by 12 seconds.
This was Łobodziński’s debut in this extreme annual challenge, which is now in its 40th year and attracts contestants from around the world.
Paul Crake of Australia set the course’s record of 9:33 in 2003.
