Tour de Pologne kicks off in Kraków
The Tour de Pologne, Poland’s largest cycle race, kicked off in Kraków on Saturday with Slovak Peter Sagan winning the opening stage.
The race started at the main square in Kraków. World champion Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) crossed the finish line ahead of Orica Scott’s Caleb Ewan to claim the leader’s jersey. Paweł Franczak finished first among Polish riders and eighth overall in the first stage.
The route of the 74th edition of Poland’s largest cycle race will take riders through more than 500 towns and villages. Overall, the seven-stage race will cover a total distance of 1,137 kilometres.
Twenty-two teams, comprising 217 cyclists, are taking part in this year’s race. The 74th Tour de Pologne runs from 29 July to 4 August.
