Włodarczyk chosen as Polish sportsperson of 2016

Olympic hammer throw champion Anita Włodarczyk has been named as Polish sportsperson of 2016 following an annual public vote.

Second was Robert Lewandowski, the captain of Polish national football team, who came first in last year’s poll.

Third was Piotr Małachowski, the silver medallist in the discus at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The winners were chosen in a poll by the readers of the Przegląd Sportowy sports daily and public broadcaster TVP.

Włodarczyk has two Olympic gold medals (2012, 2016) and three European Championship titles (2012, 2014, 2016) to her credit.

She is the first woman in history to throw the hammer over 80 metres. Her current world record is 82.98m.
